It’s been a while since I’ve updated my new blog: Monochromejunkie Part 2, using only words. I’m a writer by nature, so the written language is my first choice of throwing things out into the world.
Life has been both crazy & adventurous since Mom died, back in September (26) of last year. I’ve travelled from the East Coast to the West Coast, stretching 2,800 miles- one way, & have visited the oceans & the deserts. I’ve recently travelled through these states: Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, & California. (I may have missed one or two.)
I’m a full-time van-lifer now, also known as a “stealth camper”. It basically means I live in my new 2012 Kia Sorento LX V6 AWD. Wherever I go, that’s home. I hate the word “homeless”, & I’m neither homeless or houseless. It just so happens that my home/house has wheels.
Whatever state I’m in at the moment, I do what I can to help truly homeless people & street addicts, who own neither a home or vehicle. I buy them food, hammocks, provide both Addiction/Recovery and Mental Health counseling- free of charge, which opens a door to offer Spiritual Counseling as well. I simply want to revamp & rehab whatever community I’m in. As long as I’m contributing to the healing cycle of the population, I’m happy.
Life is a new adventure each day, and I never know what city I’m going to be in from one week to the next. I’m a nomad, and I love it. If I have my way, I’ll never own or rent a house again.
I bought a traveling companion only 4 days ago. His name is “Jackson”, & he’s a 10 week old Yorkie! SO cute. And yes I paid $600 for him. But he’s worth every penny.
Tybee Island, in Savannah, Georgia is the closest thing I have to an actual home. It’s what I consider my “home base”. Josh lives in Arizona now. He’d accompanied me out west on my last trip to Cali 10 days ago, but we ran into a few catastrophic situations in which he threatened my safety, & I had to put him out of the car just outside of the Grand Canyon.
I hit the gas pedal & never looked back. He called me 2 days later from an Executive hotel suite (despite the fact that he had already spent the $100 I gave him & hadn’t a penny to his name), in Flagstaff.
A man has seen him talking to his reflection in the hotel lobby & offered Josh his executive suite for the night. Josh called me long distance (free) – I was in Illinois already by then, heading back to Indiana. I didn’t know Josh had been doing hard drugs for the last 4 years. He confided that to me only a few months ago. Unfortunately, it’s changed his personality dramatically.
The one good thing that came out of me abandoning him in Arizona is, he no longer does hard drugs. He’s starting a whole new life there, & when he called me yesterday, he said he never wants to leave.
I’ll be buying him a new phone & giving him $200 in another week. It’s the least I can do to help him. I’ll always love that kid.
Jackson is chewing on my zipper; I’m having my morning coffee in the back seat of my luxury SUV, & getting ready to start my day.
Until next time!
